An unvented cylinder holds hot water at mains pressure, which is what makes a modern shower feel like one, and it lets the loft tanks go. The safety side has to be right: expansion vessel, pressure reducing valve, temperature and pressure relief, and a tundish with the discharge pipe run somewhere safe. Installations come under Part G of the Building Regulations and are notified to building control.

Questions about hot water cylinders
What’s an unvented cylinder?
A hot water cylinder fed directly from the mains rather than a tank in the loft, giving mains-pressure hot water at every tap and shower.
Is my water pressure good enough?
We measure it before recommending one. Most homes around Wetherby are fine, but it’s worth checking rather than guessing.
Do unvented cylinders need servicing?
Yes, once a year, so the expansion vessel, relief valves and controls work when they need to.
